LifeBook Software Re-Installation

C, E, L, S and X Series

You can only re-install the software if you have the Original Windows Operating System with the License Code and the Utility CD Provided with the LifeBook.

Warning

The re-install process will remove all data from your drive, please back up all information before you start.

For Window 98 Make sure you have...

Utility CD	Windows 98 CD	Windows 98 Licence

For Window NT Make sure you have...

Utility CD	Windows NT CD	Service Pack CD	Windows NT Licence

Please note that the Utility CD is Both Model Specific and Windows Version Specific. If your LifeBook was supplied with Windows 98 you can not use the Utility CD Provided to install Windows NT or Vice Versa.

We can not provide any additional copies of Utility CD's. If you wish to change the operating system from the one shipped the drivers are available from the drivers wizard.

Windows Recovery
1.	Insert the UTILITY CD provided with the LifeBook.
2.	Enter the BIOS F2 and under the Boot Menu change the Boot Priority so that ATAPI CD-ROM DRIVE is listed as first device.
3.	Exit BIOS Saving Changes, Machine will restart and Boot from the CDROM Drive.
4.	Type GB for English on the the Menu to select the Country Variant.
5.	Type Y to confirm that you want to recover the system.
6.	You will get a Menu with the following options, (1) Install Windows Operating System Only. (2) to Start Partitioning. (3) to Start Formatting. Select Option 2
7.	You will get a Menu with the following options, (n) abort the Partitioning. (1) to Start Automatic Partitioning. (2) to Start Cleaning Partition. (3) to Manual Partition. Select option 2 to Start Cleaning the Partition.
8.	System will Re-Start, You will get a message that says..... No Save to Disk Partition or file exists on this fixed disk Save to Disk feature is Disabled Press F1 to resume. You will be prompted by this message several times throughout the installation, please when prompted press F1 to resume all times.
9.	You will again be prompted to select GB for English on the the Menu to select the Country Variant.
10.	You will again be prompted to type Y to confirm that you want to recover the system.
11.	You will get a Menu with the following options, (1) Install Windows Operating System Only. (2) to Start Partitioning. (3) to Start Formatting. Select option 3 to Start Formatting the Hard Drive
12.	Type YThat you wish to proceed with the Format.
13.	The Hard drive will now be Formatted. When it is complete you will get a message to Reset BIOS Boot order. Press Spacebar to continue.
14.	Enter the BIOS F2 and Restore the Boot Priority to Hard Drive First. Exit the BIOS and Save changes.
15.	System will now restart and Boot from the HDD, You will get a message asking you to Insert the system CD......... This is your Windows CD.
16.	Insert you Windows CD and follow all on-screen instructions.
17.	If you are Installing Windows NT, once windows has loaded, Insert the Service Pack CD. The CD will autorun and install the Service Pack.
18.	Once this has finished installing the basic application you will need to install the LifeBook Drivers. To do this insert the Utility CD when windows is running. The CD will autorun.
19.	When prompted please type in your structure code, this is the twelve digit code found on the underside of the LifeBook, this tells the setup what components to install on your LifeBook. Follow any on screen instructions.
