To install the BIOS, with the correct overlay for a particular processor:
- download the disk image and write to a clean 1.4MB floppy disc
- boot from the floppy ,when the BIOS update program is loaded, select the speed of CPU and press return (the CPU speed can be seen on the DOS display when the system boots).

No further action is required from the user unless an error occurs, or the process completes. When complete, the Aflash utility program will display a flashing completion message at the bottom of your screen.

- press any key to power system off.
- the update is now complete.

Important notes:

1) Please ensure that upgrade process process is not interrupted or this may make the motherboard unusable..

2) The system may appear to have crashed due to inactivity on loading the Aflash utility.
   This is not the case and the process will resume after approximately 30 seconds.

3) Please ensure that you have knowledge of previous particular Bios settings since, when updating any Bios, the settings are lost and default settings loaded.

If specifically required the earlier withdrawn BIOS versions can be obtained, via 3rd line support, by raising a support call.  However, if the superseded BIOS versions are installed a number of bug fixes may not be present - this could cause system problems.

- Download the attached zipped files to update to BIOS R01-D1- F2.
-  Unzip all files to a clean bootable floppy.
-  Reboot the system with the new floppy in drive A. The AFLASH utility will execute automatically and flash the bios with the relevant update (THERE IS A DELAY OF APPROXIMATELY 10 SECs BEFORE FLASH PROCESS AUTOMATICALLY STARTS. DO NOT INTERFERE WITH THIS PROCESS).

When complete you will then see a flashing message at the bottom of the screen informing you that you should turn off the computer. Switch off the computer via the power button (there is no need to attempt exiting the program first). Remove the floppy disk, and reboot the system.

We originally had a 2 Mbyte ATI Rage IIC card, to this we added a second version of 2 Mbyte card and subsequently 2 versions of 4 Mbyte cards. There is a part number for the 2 Mbyte cards and a number for the 4 Mbyte cards, but no way of distinguishing (by our part number) between the 2 sorts of 2 Mbyte card and similarly no way of distinguishing between the 4 Mbyte ones.

There are 2 versions of driver for the boards that we use... (ATI have a number of others).

The system BIOS also has a bearing on how the video operates.

Execute the attached files (ATI3D.EXE and ATI3D4MB.EXE) from a PC to create the ATI driver installation diskette. NOTE - This files are FFR archives and until it is unpacked to a floppy disk is not useable.

The V5.1 driver is ATI3D.EXE (5.1.118.4.0.0).
The V5.2 (4MB Version) driver is ATI.EXE (5.2.079.4.0.0).

The corrupt video failure is characterized by corruption's all over the display, but resolution options are available. The 16 colours failure is a failure of ther driver to operate at all, a Microsoft generic driver used and VGA options only available.

NOTE SP 4 or later is required to get the ATI/AGP options functional... DO NOT FORGET TO INSTALL THE SERVICE PACK.

As you can see from the table, if you have a P3 (Pentium 3) system with the "D" BIOS you should use the V5.2 driver and all will be well. If you have a P2  (Pentium 2) system, use the V5.1 driver. If you have the BOARD 4 type card and cannot use the later BIOS, raise a call (or get your service provider to raise a call) on 3rd line support mentioning this knowledge entry and we will assist in solving the problem.

We have done a considerable amount of testing of different combinations in creating this knowledge entry, but ATI have different drivers that we have not tested and we have other system BIOS options that are also not tested in this context. It is also not impossible that there are other versions of card that we are unaware of (but we do not believe we have sold others). If you have a problem in this area, please do not hesitate to raise a call. We would ask you to include all the details possible since, as is obvious above, it may be that several factors affect the correct operation of the boards.

Other than the complication of having 4 board types, we believe that there are no similar problems with A8i systems.

Simply download the attached files  to a directory on your hard drive then double-click each image, (you will need 1 floppy disk per image) Label each disk so they may be easily identified.

Upgrading: YOU MUST USE BMC DISK FIRST

1. Note the settings of the SETUP parameters.  Enter SETUP by hitting
   the F2 key during boot up.  Write down the settings for each of
   parameters.  At the end of the BIOS update process you should set the
   parameters to default values by hitting the F9 key, and then
   re-enter these values you have written down.

2.  Place the L8i BMC floppy into drive a: of the system that you want to upgrade and boot

    the system from this disk.

3.  Follow any instructions that appear then proceed to step 4.

4.  Insert the floppy disk with the L8i Bios information, then boot from this disk.

NOTE: IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT BOTH STAGES OF THE INSTALL ARE COMPLETED
         WHEN YOU BOOT THE FLOPPY, YOU WILL SEE 2 OPTIONS.
         OPTION 1 INSTALLS THE BIOS CODE ITSELF.
         OPTION 2 INSTALLS THE USER DATA AREA

5.  Select option 1 and allow it to complete, then....
   
6.  .....select option 2.

When the update utility starts up,
Press ENTER to go to the Main Menu.

7.  Highlight the option that reads "Update Flash Memory From a File" and
    press ENTER.

8.  Highlight the option that reads "Update System BIOS" and press
    ENTER.

9.  At the screen that asks you to enter the path and name of the file,
    press TAB to highlight the file name and press ENTER.

10. The system will give you a warning that BIOS is about to be changed.
     If you wish to continue simply hit ENTER.

11. Once the BIOS has been successfully loaded, remove the floppy
     diskette from the drive.  Hit ENTER at the prompt to reboot the
     system.

14. Check to make sure the BIOS version is the new version as the system
     reboots.

Note: you may encounter a CMOS Checksum error or other problem after
reboot. Try shutting down the system and booting up again.  CMOS
checksum errors require that you enter Setup, check your settings, save
your settings, and exit Setup.

This driver is recommended for use with all installations of TeamServer A800i and Mylex BT-950 Flashpoint controllers.

The attached zip contains 2 diskette images that are the NT 4.0 drivers for L800i on-board SCSI adaptors. These drivers are for 53C896 and 53C810 and are version 4.3. They are disks 1 and 2 of 80329123 (which has 4 disks in all) and form part of SS000018 which is supplied with L800 systems. (L8 L8i L8xxi SYMBIOS)
